Day 356 – In Support of Hunter

Hunter will be heading back to Cincinnati for chemotherapy treatment here in a few days. In preparation, there was a “shave off” today at Nowata Printing. Dusty and Bill both agreed to share the experience with and to offer their support with him. Hunter ran the clippers, and I must say that he did quite a good job.

Day 355 – Oh, That Explains It!

And here I was wondering where all them muddy paw prints on the light colored linoleum were coming from!

Day 354 – Another Misfit

We were “gifted” another misfit. A little Americauna pullet with a crooked beak now calls the farm home. She seems to be doing real well.

I think she’s a beauty! Will have to come up with a name for her, any suggestions?

Day 353 – Growing Silkie

Three weeks old and the silkies are starting to get their big chicken feathers. Before we know it we will be forced to build them their own little hut in the great outdoors.

Day 352 – Ready to Bloom

The Redbuds are getting ready to bloom. I am so glad to be seeing more color!

Day 350 – Meet Three-Thirteen!

I guess we now have the reputation with some in the community of liking all things odd. Not a bad reputation to have in my opinion. We definitely have quite the eclectic style going on out here on our little farm.

Today I would like to introduce everyone to our newest addition… Three-Thirteen, a little red sex link pullet I rescued today.

I got the call to come rescue the little critter, because it was being attacked by all the other baby chicks due to it being blessed with and extra leg.

This little chick required a new brooder box, light, feeder, and waterer. Hrmmm… Seems our affinity for the underdog has cost us a little bit of money. Well worth it to keep her alive and well.

Why the name Three-Thirteen you ask? Well, as you can plainly see, she has three legs, two where they should be, and one coming out behind.

On her left foot, she has the normal four toes, one of which is missing a nail. On the right foot, she has but three toes, and on the third foot, she has a whopping six toes, for a total of lucky thirteen. With my love of “odd” things, right down to numbers, the name seemed to fit. I am pretty sure we will always be able to pick out Three-Thirteen from the crowd.

Day 348 – A Little Snappy

Gator spied a baby snapping turtle trying to make it’s way across the driveway this afternoon. After I shot pics, he rescued it and released it at a nice little water hole hopefully far enough away from the kitties and chickens that it survives.

Day 347 – Venus – Jupiter Conjunction

Venus and Jupiter appear just 3 degrees apart in the western sky.
