Day 182 – Au Gratin Taters

Made the men in my life some home made Au Gratin Taters for dinner, extra cheesy per Gator’s (aka The Boy) request. Took quite a while, but was worth all the time invested to hear they were really good. In case you want to try them sometime, the recipe is below.

Au Gratin Taters

4-6 Russet Potatoes – Sliced

1 Onion – Chopped

Salt & Pepper to taste

Minced Garlic

3 T Butter

3 T flour

1/2 t Salt

2 C Milk

2 C Cheddar Cheese – Shredded

Saute Onion and Garlic in some butter for 4 minutes

Butter Casserole Dish

Layer half the potatoes in bottom of prepared dish

Top with half the onion & garlic

In medium sauce pan, melt 3 T butter over medium heat, mix in flour and salt

Stir constantly with whisk for one minute

Stir in milk slowly – Cook until mixture has thickened

Stir in cheese all at once and continue stirring until melted – 30-60 seconds

Pour half of cheese over potatoes & onions and garlic

Layer other half of potatoes, then onions and garlic, then cheese

Cover with foil and bake 1 hour and 10 minutes at 400 degrees

Remove foil, bake 20 minutes

Remove from oven and let stand 10 minutes before serving
